PUTTING ON…
Bob Neumann
DEAR WPA….
I know you have all heard the line about Putting on THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD. Probably listened to all the IMAGES that these pieces of ARMOR signify. And you were told that THE SEQUENCE has special meaning.
But all deal with THE REVELATION OF THE LAMB OF GOD in our existence. Sure PAUL says we should do this daily….but who really does????
Do we actually see ourselves…”girding our loins”? Some call it THE BELT OF TRUTH. A belt really does not cover all our nakedness. But JESUS who is THE TRUTH says HE WILL clothe us in HIS RIGHTIOUSNESS. Which is the BREASTPLATE. They do seem to flow together…TRUTH AND RIGHTIOUSNESS.
Then we are shod with THE PREPERATION of THE GOSPEL OF PEACE. Now that a strange way of expressing what most people would call “spreading the gospel”. But i have learned that what most people think usually proves to be wrong. Just think about it…THE PREPERATION of THE GOSPEL OF PEACE….
reminds me of John at the Jordan. Calling out the PROPHET ISAIAH’s words about PREPARING A HIGHWAY OF HOLINESS. To build a HIGHWAY in the desert.
Lots of images there…but we got to keep moving… so we pick up THE SHIELD OF FAITH. SURE DO NOT WEAR IT, you have to CARRY IT….for good reason…to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
FIERY DARTS….BURNING ARROWS…interesting image. FAITH IS WHAT “SHIELDS” us from what the enemy is throwing at us….so we had better have functional FAITH if we prefer not to be a smoldering pincushon.
And only now we get THE HELMET OF SALVATION. Why does SALVATION COME IN SO LATE?
Now this is a splendid question, and i leave it to all on the WPA to ponder. I figure 17 people may answer…2, maybe 3 will be on the money.
As for “and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God”…if no one can get as far as the HELMET…you sure are not safe to carry any sharp or pointed objects.
Now i do not want to hear some stuff you read in some book. Or what you may have heard in some 6 point power sermon you still have on tape.
What is THE MOST HOLY SPIRIT saying to you…right now?
